This event will take place at the House of More in LOS ANGELES.

Join us for a workshop with Madison Margolin, author of Exile & Ecstasy: Growing Up with Ram Dass and Coming of Age in the Jewish Psychedelic Underground.

(And bring along your copy of Exile & Ecstasy and get it signed by the author!)

Where do Jewish and psychedelic consciousness intersect? How can Judaism be used as the framework for a psychedelic experience, with or without substance, and what aspects of Jewish thought and ritual can help you prepare for, navigate, and integrate expanded states of consciousness? Was Moshe tripping when he saw the burning bush and does it even matter? What was actually in the Baal Shem Tov's pipe? And what does Jewish psychedelic practice look like today? And what should you know in order to have a safe, fulfilling experience?

Explore these questions and more throughout the evening with author, journalist, and guide Madison Margolin. From LA to NY, from Israel to India, Madison has explored the role and use of psychedelic substances in spiritual practice. Having been raised in California's cannabis legalization movement and amongst post-Holocaust "HinJews" in the community surrounding spiritual leader Ram Dass, author of Be Here Now, and his/her father's guru Neem Karoli Baba, as a journalist Madison found intersectionality between her roots and her foray in the psychedelic Hasidic underground of Brooklyn, Monsey, and the Catskills.

Today, she splits her time between New York and Israel, where she wrote her book in Tzfat. She has two more books forthcoming, including a Jewish psychedelic manual with Ayin Press, and puts out relevant content through her podcast Set and Setting on the Be Here Now Network. Madison is also the co-founder of psychedelic media startup DoubleBlind Magazine and the Jewish Psychedelic Summit. She has written for various outlets including Rolling Stone, Vice, and Playboy, and her work has been featured in outlets like the New York Times and Forbes. Nowadays, you can find her practicing yoga, spinning her hula hoop, writing her next book, or working on her latest project: SHOMREI NEFESH, a psychedelic harm reduction initiative for the frum community. About Exile & Ecstasy:

Exile and Ecstasy sets out to explore the psychedelic path that occupies the crossroads between the Ram Dass movement and Judaism. It’s a path of seeking and escape, rebellion and return, medicine and magic. It’s a path that ultimately points toward home.

Through the perspective of having grown up among “HinJews” in the Ram Dass community and in the cannabis legalization movement, journalist Madison Margolin takes the reader on a journey inside New York’s Jewish counterculture and the Hasidic underground, reconciling her roots, tackling ancestral Jewish trauma, and finding intersectionality between the Jewish and psychedelic experience.

Bridging the polar ends of the Jewish and psychedelic worlds, while buttressing the experience with expert reportage, Madison prods at Be Here Now to find its relevance and utility in a new generation. In doing so, she looks at solutions to our lack of presence and offers ways to integrate our psychedelic experiences in mundane life, as well as in the context of our roots and religious identities.

This book is for anyone looking to feel spiritually kindled, to make peace with where they come from, and to reconcile seemingly disparate experiences of spirituality and psychedelics with traditional religion.
